GEORGE OLLIVER wins MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR, at the 1st Annual Durham Music Awards.

 

 

 

Christian Vocalist and Juno Nominee, GEORGE OLLIVER

 

is a happy musician these days after winning MALE

 

VOCALIST OF THE YEAR at the DURHAM MUSIC

 

AWARDS last Wed. Sept. 21.  George has been a mainstay

 

in the Canadian Music Industry with several hit recordings

 

including the #1 song of the late 60's  - "Opportunity" by

 

THE MANDALA (lead by late great guitarist Domenic

 

Troiano).   Other recordings include his group NATURAL

 

GAS, which was a pick hit in all the major trades in the

 

70's and was a top ten hit in RPM.  GEORGE OLLIVER as a

 

solo artist, earned a JUNO NOMINATION for his album

 

"Dream Girl in the late 80's), and his current band

 

GEORGE OLLIVER & GANGBUSTER, has been just

 

recently re released "LIVE@THE BLUENOTE" on

 

George's label SLOTT RECORDS.  This group is still

 

going strong on into the millenium.

 

 

 

OLLIVER was also nominated by the Durham Reg. Music

 

Society  for BEST GOSPEL GROUP.   This was for his

 

brand new r&b/gospel band CAUGHT AWAY WITH

 

GEO.OLLIVER and their recording "LIVE @ UNIONVILLE

 

ALLIANCE" on Olliver's Christian record label RAPIO

 

RECORDS.  George was very much involved in making

 

sure a GOSPEL MUSIC CATAGORY was part of the

 

awards format.  His band "CAUGHT AWAY"  was recently

 

featured at the OSHAWA RIB FEST in early Sept. as the

 

1ST CHRISTIAN BAND in the organizations musical line

 

up.

 

 

 

Other nominees up for awards were Oshawa's JACK

 

DKYSER for best blues artist and RENA GAILE from

 

Pickering, for best female vocalist.   The event was held at

 

The Centennial Building in Whitby and organized by

 

Durham Music Society's Howard Ross and Terry

 

Blankley.
