Here's a leading question. Do you think the Mandala was as good as I remember? If so, it was one of the best bands in history. I know you were in the James Gang, Guess Who, and other big-name bands - how did the Mandala stack up to them? Or to Lou Reed or Alice Cooper, who other band members played with? You don't have to answer! I don't know if I have over-romanticized it or what. The Five Steps to Soul sounds pretty corny today, but at the time I was floored by the whole thing.
The Mandala was as good as you remember. To this day I still run into people, hear from people etc. about how seeing the band “changed their lives”. Musically and spiritually Mandala was light years ahead of the other bands you mention. Now, whether you liked the songs etc is a subjective thing but there is no disputing how powerful the band was live.
Hope you’re well.
take care,
Domenic
