George's Mandala band-mate and long-time friend, Domenic Troiano, passed away recently from cancer. Troiano is considered one of the best and most innovative guitar players in Canadian rock history, playing with Bush, The James Gang, Guess Who, and others. George Olliver & Gangbuster played New Years at Casino Rama in Orillia, Ontario to ring in 2006. Bill Carruthers (entertainment director of the Casino) enjoyed the band's performance so much, he arranged tickets and backstage passes the following weekend for George and his wife Pat to meet The King of Soul, Mr. James Brown. On Monday, Jan. 30th at 8pm, CBC aired "Shakin All Over", a 2 hour special based on the Nicholas Jennings book called "Before the Gold Rush". This book covers the formative years of the Canadian music scene during the 60's and early 70's. Domenic Troiano and George Olliver are two of the many Canadian music pioneers who are featured in this program. See Poster.
